Discover Morocco Through My Eyes: The Story Behind MOROCCOTALES

From Agadir to Adventure: How My Love for Morocco Became a Journey

I was born and raised in Agadir, a sun-kissed coastal city in southern Morocco where the Atlantic waves crash against golden beaches and the scent of argan trees fills the air. Growing up here, I was surrounded by stunning landscapes, warm-hearted people, and a culture so rich it felt like stepping into a living storybook.

But as much as I loved my hometown, I always felt a pull to explore beyond the familiar—to lose myself in the labyrinthine medinas of Fes, trek the snow-dusted peaks of the Atlas Mountains, and share tea with nomadic families under the vast Sahara sky.

One day, I made a decision that would change everything: I picked up my backpack, camera, and notebook and set out to document the Morocco I knew—the one beyond the postcards. That’s how MOROCCOTALES was born.

Why I Started MOROCCOTALES

1. To Show the Morocco You Won’t Find in Guidebooks

I wanted to take travelers beyond the tourist hotspots—into hidden alleyways where generations of artisans hammer copper under the watchful eyes of their ancestors, to remote villages where time moves to the rhythm of harvest seasons, and to untold stories whispered in the shadows of ancient kasbahs.

From secret rooftop cafés in Marrakech where locals debate politics over sweet mint tea, to ancient Amazigh traditions in the desert where star navigation is still taught to children, my mission is to reveal the soul of Morocco—the living, breathing culture that exists beyond the curated experiences.

2. To Be Your Trusted Local Guide

I don’t just write about places—I’ve lived them. I’ve:

  • Slept under the stars in Merzouga dunes, learning survival tricks from nomadic families

  • Spent weeks apprenticing with a master tile craftsman in Fez to understand zellij patterns

  • Eaten at every stall in Jemaa el-Fnaa to find the most authentic harira soup

Every tip I share comes from personal trial and error—like knowing which desert camps truly benefit local communities, or which hidden hammam gives the best argan oil massages.

3. To Keep Travel Real & Responsible

In an age of Instagram tourism, I commit to:

  • No staged photos (you’ll see the real dust, chaos and beauty)

  • No paid promotions (every recommendation is earned)

  • Sustainable practices like supporting women’s argan cooperatives and eco-friendly riads
